Of all the churches in Maui, Kumulani Chapel is the only Maui church that meets in a barn—and has for over thirty years. It’s not really a barn, but that’s what it’s called. It’s actually where the Bay Golf Course once stored its golf carts. Now it’s our “sanctuary.”
The Barn only has two sides, so we worship in the cool of the trades looking out to a clash of blues where sea meets sky as drifting clouds make their way to the emerald isle of Molokai. The trade winds, the vista, the worship, and the Word are a combination that is not-to-be-missed and cannot be duplicated by any other Maui church. Simply put, your visit to Maui will not be complete until you have worshipped in our Kapalua church.
Kumulani Chapel is the only church in Kapalua, so if you are already on the north end of the island, worshipping with us is a “no-brainer.” But if you are anywhere else on what we call the Westside, or Lahaina side of the island, there is good reason for you to come north. For one, it gets one degree cooler every mile you go up Highway 30 from Lahaina. We are located nine miles north of the Lahaina churches (five miles north of Kaanapali) making it nine degrees cooler. Lahaina isn’t called “Relentless or Cruel Sun” for nothing. Simply stated, praise and worship are cooler at our Kapalua church.
Our teaching is “cool” too. Kumulani Chapel is one of the few Maui churches featuring verse-by-verse Bible instruction. We don’t skip around or ignore parts of God’s Word. If the Bible says it, we teach it. The whole of scripture is important to us and we are careful to cover it all. But don’t worry about coming in the middle of a book study. Each message stands alone. You won’t have to know what came before or what follows next. But if you do wonder, you can always go to our Sermons page and take your pick of previous messages or fulfill your curiosity as to what happened after you returned home. |
Church music is often a sticky subject. If the teenagers had their way with music in church most adults wouldn’t go. If the retired folks had their way the youth wouldn’t go. We’ve solved the problem. Worship at Kumulani is not too hot and it’s not too old. Think of it as “Calvary Chapel Maui style”—just right. It will be “good enough” for your teenagers, it won’t offend the grandparents, and it will be perfect for you. Other Maui churches may have louder music, more youthful music, or sing more hymns, but we like the blending we’ve achieved. We think you will too.
We are easy to find. Go north on Highway 30 to Kapalua, turn left on Office Road, and go a little less than a half-mile. Park on the right. The Barn is on the left. If you get to the Honolua Store you’ve gone one building too far. Click “Directions” at the center/middle of this page for maps and more details.
First time visitors to our Maui church get a special gift of “aloha” to remind them of the time we had together. Don’t miss it. Join us at what we hope will soon become your church home away from home—Kumulani Chapel. |

"We had been coming to Maui for eighteen years. There are lots of Maui churches, but Kumulani Chapel was our Maui church home from the get-go. They are friendly, fun folks who are serious about Jesus. Of all the churches in Maui of which we are aware, Kumulani has the best blending of components. It’s a vibrant church. We moved to Maui a year ago. Kumulani Chapel is now our permanent church home." J.C., Kapalua, HI
"Kumulani Chapel is a great place to worship the Lord. The setting, the music, the teaching, the people—just the best! We attended the first Sunday of the month and got a free brunch too. We’re hooked on this Maui church." S.T., San Diego, CA
"A highlight for us when we visit Maui is to join friends and other visitors at Kumulani Chapel. The service is open, warm and inviting and the worship draws us in. The messages are encouraging and the hospitality is warm and friendly. There are other wonderful churches in Maui, but Kumulani is where we go when we stay on the west side." M.B., Santa Barbara, CA
"If you are searching for churches in Maui and are staying on the Lahaina side, come experience Kumulani Chapel and do “Maui Church” in a beautiful setting. We did! “Rubba Slippas OK.”" R.W., Napili, HI
"Recently while visiting friends, I had the pleasure of attending Kumulani Chapel. The worship was joyous and was a sweet time of adoration and praise to the greatness and majesty of God. They call it “Calvary Chapel Maui style” music. If you have the chance, visit this Maui church." B.T., Redmond, OR
"Whenever I'm on island over a weekend, there is one Maui church service that I don't want to miss, and if you have ever been to Kumulani Chapel in Kapalua, you know what I mean. Kumulani Chapel has been a huge blessing to me, and all my family, over many years. It makes my day and sets the tone for my week." P.D., Newport Beach, CA
"Kumulani Chapel has a Lahaina church address but it’s located in beautiful Kapalua. If you are considering churches in Maui, you ought to celebrate Jesus at Kumulani Chapel. Give ‘em a try. I did and it was great!" J.E., Portland, OR |
